  2. as soft, whitish crystals or encrustations on
  3. the shores of hot springs and in the dry beds
  4. of salt lakes in arid regions, where it
  5. occurs with other borates, halite, and
  6. gypsum. It is used in bleaches and washing
  7. powders. A large industrial source is Borax
  8. Lake, California. Borax is also used in
  9. glazing pottery, in soldering, as a mild
  10. antiseptic, and as a metallurgical flux.
